Second phase: Research

  • As an artist my thinking process tends to be iterative and recursive rather than linear.

  • It includes suprarational as well as rational inputs, creative and uncommon observations, non-searched findings.

  • Metaphores and dreams play an important role.
Third phase: Sketching

  • Studio sketching of nude and non-nude models.

  • Outdoor sketching of landscapes, horses, ...
Fourth phase: Painting

  • I’ve spend a large part of my life studying and applying a wide variety of techniques. I still experiment with new techniques all the time.

  • I’ve always considered myself a pupil of the great Flemish masters; Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Pieter Bruegel the Younger, Adriaen Brouwer, .... The fact that I live and work in the same region as they did only strengthens that feeling. I use many of their techniques for my oil on canvas paintings.
Fifth phase: Finished work

  • Making abstract thought visible.

  • In the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, the musical and the dramatic element intertwine. "Orpheus struck such harmonies on his sweet lyre that trees came up the hill and surrounded him."
